Tallinn Marathon medals and t-shirts are decorated with sea waves

23.08.2021

For the first time, the Tallinn Marathon competition centre and start are located at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds. On Saturday, 11 September, the half-marathon (21.1 km) will start at 9.00 and at 17.00 the RIMI 10 km race will kick off. On Sunday, 12 September at 9.00 the marathon runners will take on the course (42.195 km).

The track of the longer events runs along the streets and light traffic roads of Pirita tee, Merivälja tee and Reidi tee. The RIMI 10 km trail race takes the runners around the Song Festival Grounds, Maarjamäe and Lillepi park trails.

This year, the medals of the Estonia’s largest race depict the wavy sea and the classic panorama of the capital.

“Since for the first time, the start of Tallinn Marathon and the RIMI 10 km race are at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds with an exclusive sea view, and the majority of the running tracks is also on the seaside roads, the design of the 2021 medals represents this year’s race perfectly. Also, the sea with its multitude of variations is as diverse and unpredictable as this year with its restrictions has been,” medal designer Priit Verlin said explaining the design choices.

“Running a marathon is like a challenging journey on tumultuous sea, which is why all finishers will receive a golden medal with a stormy sea depicted in the front. Silver medal with similar motives is given to all half-marathon finishers,” Verlin said. Those who conquer the RIMI 10 km race will receive a slightly smaller bronze medal depicting large waves. Everyone who pass the races in virtual format will receive the same medals.

Those who finish what will likely become the most popular event of the virtual Tallinn Marathon – the marathon combo, taking place between 1 and 30 September – will receive a golden medal with numerous even waves - this characterises the event format well – the marathon needs to be passed in parts during September.

In addition to the marathon combo finishers, everyone partaking in the virtual 5-km race and kids’ races will also receive the medal with the waves.

The official Tallinn Marathon t-shirt is also inspired by sea this year. Rolling waves, similar to those on the medals, are depicted on a deep blue background. All marathon, virtual marathon and marathon combo finishers will receive the unique running shirt.

For the first time ever, everyone can participate in both formats, either the event or in the virtual event, and add the unique sea-themed memorabilia to their medal and shirt collection.
