The fastest of RIMI 10K were Tiidrek Nurme and Soukaina Atanane
The RIMI 10K, which is the most competitive in the Tallinn Marathon programme, was won by Tiidrek Nurme, a member of the Estonian marathon team. The women's fastest was Soukaina Atanane from Morocco, who also won the half marathon this morning.
Along with thousands of amateurs, several of Estonia's best long distance runners and fast foreign competitors also took part in the race, which has been Estonia's most competitive in the last three years.
In 10K, Estonia's best marathoner Tiidrek Nurme from the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club ran solo, winning in 29 minutes and 39 seconds. Karel Hussar from Jooksupartner came second (30.26), multiple Estonian orienteering champion Kenny Kivikas came third (30.49) and Estonian Marathon Team runner Kaur Kivistik from Tartu Spordiselts Kalev came fourth (31.09).
Moroccan Soukaina Atanane, who came first in the morning's half marathon, was the women's winner in 33.11, narrowly beating 18-year-old Latvian hope Agate Caune (33.16). Both also broke the 10km distance record set by Latvia's best-known long distance runner Jelena Prokopcuka (33.18). Estonian Laura Maasik (35.27) came third.
The programme of the Tallinn Marathon continues on Sunday morning at 9.00 a.m. with the 42-kilometre, 195-metre classic marathon race, which starts at the foot of Toompea from Falgi Road and includes the Estonian and Tallinn championships.
