Narva Energy Run brings to its start line the best long-distance runners in Estonia

08.06.2022

Narva Energy Run that takes place for the tenth time brings to its start line the best long-distance runners in Estonia and offers the joy of exercise to numerous recreational athletes of different ages. The entire Estonian marathon team preparing for the European Championships will be present.

The largest recreational sports event in Ida-Viru County taking place on Saturday, June 11 will include a five-kilometer distance for runners and walkers and a 21.1-kilometer half marathon. The always popular Kids Races are this time held in the Castle Park in front of Hermann Castle. Stefan, Estonia’s representative in the Eurovision Song Contest final, will perform at a free concert for Energy Run participants and spectators.

In co-operation with the Estonian Athletic Association, Estonian Championships in half-marathon will also take place within the framework of Narva Energy Run where the best Estonian long-distance runners Tiidrek Nurme, Roman Fosti, and Kaur Kivistik, all preparing for European Championships Munich 2022, will take to the track along with hundreds of exercise enthusiasts.

Tiidrek Nurme, the Estonian half marathon record holder and two-time Narva Energy Run winner that represents the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club, says the Energy Run is a perfect addition to his preparation for the European Championships in Munich. “Most likely, the whole elite group will run together until the last third of the competition. We can test out our favorable cooperation with both Fost and Kivistik in the competition environment. In the first half of the distance I will run at a calmer pace, while closer to the finish line I will take my shot at winning the race,” Estonia’s current best long-distance runner alluded to his outstanding racing form.

Roman Fosti, three-time winner of Narva Energy Run from Sparta Spordiselts sports club, described the current situation as follows: “Special preparations are underway for Munich, I’m undergoing some serious training and my body keeps giving me signals every now and to hold my horses. My running shape is good but, as Estonian weather tends to be, quite volatile as resulting from strenuous training efforts. The goal in Narva is to deliver a strong performance along with my teammates and in the last quarter, if I have the strength, to put myself and my rivals to the test, going after the half marathon win. I hope that the entire marathon team aspiring to Munich will have a place on the pedestal. To do this, Tiidrek must push us forward and Kaur’s job is to race like the wind,” the multiple time Estonian Champion jokingly provoked his competitors/teammates.

The reigning Estonian half marathon Champion Kaur Kivistik with Tartu Spordiselts Kalev sports club is not in wide-eyed awe of his more experienced colleagues, also promising to fight a good fight for victory at Narva Energy Run. “I hope to stay in the leading group and at the right time surprise everyone with a final sprint. The time goal is to set a personal record and outrun the 1:05.22 half marathon record time by my coach Margus Pirksaar. Whether that will be enough to win we’ll find out on Saturday,” Kivistik noted.

Leonid Latsepov (Sparta) and Aleksandr Kulešov (Treeningpartner sports club) that have achieved good results this spring as well as several others are also trying to keep up with the three favorites.

Among women, Kaisa Kukk, Mari Boikov, Kadiliis Kuiv, Evelin Talts, and a number of other long-distance runners that are part of Estonia’s running elite will endeavor to win medals in the Estonian Championships.

The diverse track of the largest sports event in Ida-Viru County held for the tenth time leads the participants to the streets and cycle and pedestrian tracks of Narva, also venturing to Pähklimäe health trails in Äkkeüla Sports and Recreation Area. All finishers of the half marathon and the five-kilometer distance receive a unique Energy Run Jubilee Medal, inspired by Narva’s famous historical monuments: the more than 700-year-old Hermann Castle and the famous Swedish Lion. A merry lion cub also decorates the Kids Race Medal.

Narva Energy Run is an event created on the initiative of energy company Eesti Energia, the City of Narva, the Republic of Estonia Ministry of Culture, and the Sport Event Team (MTÜ Spordiürituste Korraldamise Klubi) with the objective of encouraging people to engage in fitness sports and increasing the importance of Ida-Viru County in the Estonian cultural and sports landscape. Narva Energy Run is also the fourth stage of Estonia's largest recreational sports series RIMI Urban Races (RIMI Eesti Linnajooksud).

Online registration for the tenth Narva Energy Run remains open until Friday night at www.jooks.ee and participants can also register on-site on Saturday at the Secretariat located in the Competition Center.
