This year’s programme of the Tallinn Marathon, which starts and finishes at the foot of Toompea for the first time, is ready to offer thousands of enthusiasts the joy of movement. The unique participation medals depict one of the most important symbols of Estonian statehood, the Tall Hermann Tower.

The biggest popular sports event in Estonia will take place in the capital of Estonia on 9-11 September, again as a three-day movement festival. The virtual race of the Tallinn Marathon, which has become a regular event for many runners, is open from 1 to 30 September.

The international Tallinn Marathon programme, which involves top-ranked long-distance runners and thousands of sports enthusiasts, includes a half-marathon (21.1 km) and the RIMI 10 km (10 km) on Saturday, 10 September, and a classic marathon race (42.2 km) on Sunday, 11 September. Five thousand participants have already registered for the distances in the main programme as at the beginning of July.

Registration for the 5-kilometre Nike Youth Run and Limpa Kids' Races will also begin in the near future.

The competition centre of the Tallinn Marathon and the sports and health fair area are once again located on Freedom Square. At the same time, there will be award ceremonies and a cultural programme.

The starting and finishing place for the biggest movement event in Estonia is located for the first time at the foot of Toompea on Falgi Road. From here you can enjoy a magnificent view of the symbol of Estonian statehood, the Tall Hermann Tower, where the blue, black and white national flag is raised every morning at sunrise.

The track routes of all the scheduled distances will consist of one lap, starting and ending in the city centre, and will run across the streets and light traffic roads of the city of Tallinn.

Detailed track schemes and traffic management during the event will be made public immediately after getting approvals from the police and city authorities.

The unique medals for participation in the biggest running event in Estonia are this year inspired by one of the most important symbols of Estonian statehood, the Tall Hermann Tower, at the foot of which is also the start and finish of the Tallinn Marathon for the first time. The medals are also unique because they can be placed upright.
“The medals of the Tallinn Marathon are medals that stand up. Literally. Our most important flag tower can be put from the neck right on the shelf – not lying down, but standing up,” says the author Priit Verlin as he describes the medals.

In parallel to the conventional main event, a virtual Tallinn Marathon will take place from 1 to 30 September, where you can participate from any corner of the world. At the biggest virtual sports event in Estonia, you can take part in a very popular combined marathon, or a “marathon combo”, which is suitable for every jogging and exercise enthusiast. The full marathon distance must be completed during the month of September either by running or by walking in parts until the required number of kilometres is reached. There will also be a virtual children’s run.

Organised by the Sport Event Team since 2000 and 2010, Tallinn Autumn Runs and Tallinn Marathons have so far got more than 250,000 sports enthusiasts moving. The international sports event with the highest participation rate in Estonian history was held in Estonia’s jubilee year 2018 when a total of 23,940 runners and sports enthusiasts from 67 countries participated in the distances of the Tallinn Marathon and Autumn Run.
