EAS support

Tallinna Maraton will increase the number of foreign visitors

During the period from 2016 to 2018, Enterprise Estonia (EAS) will be supporting the organisation of Tallinna Maratoon, Estonia’s biggest community sports event, with two hundred thousand euros from the European Regional Development Fund’s resources under the international major events measure.

This support is aimed to raise awareness of Estonia as a scene for major events, boosting the sustainability of major events, and to increase the number of nights spent by foreign visitors in Estonian accommodation establishments. With the help of the funds from EAS, the organisers are pursuing the goal of increasing the total number of nights spent in Estonians accommodation establishments by foreign visitors in connection with Tallinna Maraton in the years 2016-2018 to at least 25,500 single nights. A total of 18,781 amateur exercisers participated in this 2016 largest international marathon run in the Baltic states and Estonia’s biggest community sports event. Tallinna Maraton, which for the first time involved a three-day programme and took place on renewed courses, brought to Estonia a record-breaking number of foreigners. In 2016, 2168 running tourists from as much as 54 European countries took part in various distances in Tallinn. Most participants were from Finland, Russia, Latvia, Great Britain and Germany. All the continents except for the Antarctic were represented.
The Tallinna Maraton to take place in 2018 that marks the one hundredth anniversary of the Republic of Estonia anticipates the participation of already five thousand foreigners, and to involve them, active cooperation is done with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) as well as with several organisers of international marathon runs and tourism enterprises.

In 2018, Tallinna Maraton will take place on 7.-9. September.
