All participants in LHV Women’s Run will receive beautiful medals

08.04.2022

The number of registered participants in LHV Women’s Run (in Estonian: LHV Maijooks) is approaching the pre-crisis level. The eye-catching medals of Estonia's largest women's sports event are inspired by the beloved spring flower lily of the valley.

Estonian women like sports. After a two-year break caused by the coronavirus, registration for the most popular women's sports event in Estonia, which will again take place in its proper form on 21 May at Tallinn Song Festival Grounds, is underway. One and a half months before the big event, there are already almost four thousand registered participants, which allows to estimate that the final number will be more than ten thousand.

At LHV Women’s Run women and girls can compete in two distances. At noon, at 12:00, young participants will take the start for the three-kilometre RIMI Girls' Race. An hour later, at 13:00, the main seven-kilometre distance of LHV Women’s Run will start, which can be completed by running, walking and Nordic walking. Racers can choose between timed and untimed distances. The running and walking trails will take the participants to the roads and health trails around the Song Festival Grounds and Maarjamäe. A traditional spring concert at Tallinn Song Festival Grounds and a big spring health fair will also be organised.

In the three weeks before LHV Women’s Run, from 1 to 21 May, it will be possible to take part in the virtual Kids’ Race and the 21-kilometer Women’s Run Combo, which can be completed by any sports enthusiast. The distance of the half-marathon must be completed either by running or walking in separate parts until the required number of kilometres is reached. During the three weeks of May everyone will be able to complete the distance they have registered, using an individually chosen route and in accordance with the rules. Since the virtual run that will take place from 1 to 21 May is also an excellent motivating training tool for women before the main event that will take place at Tallinn Song Festival Grounds on 21 May, the participation fee is significantly cheaper for those who register for both regular and virtual runs at the same time.

This year's LHV Women’s Run participation medals are inspired by the lily of the valley – one of the most beautiful flowers in Estonia, widely found in its forests and fields. Usually the lily of the valley opens its tiny flowers, which look as if they are made from porcelain, in the second half of May, just during the Women’s Run. The lily of the valley is a spring flower that carries elegance, a classic aroma, and a touch of nostalgia, because when it starts to bloom we are reminded that spring is about to end and summer is approaching. According to the author Priit Verlin, the medals of the Women’s Run are true works of art. They have different designs for each distance, which adds motivation to participate in several of them. Those who complete the main seven-kilometre distance will receive a medal with a cut out semicircle and beautiful golden flowers, and participants in the three-kilometre Girls’ Race will receive an airy jewel-shaped medal with a bouquet of white flowers. A unique medal with beautiful white flowers on a metal background will be sent home by post to those who will complete the 21-kilometre Virtual Women’s Run Combo. The virtual Kids’ Race medal is characterised by a classic lily of the valley image inspired by famous fairy tales.

The Women’s Run is Estonia's largest-ever health and sports event for women, which boasts over two hundred thousand participants in thirty-four years. The first Women’s Run took place in 1988.
