How Emilia Combined Running with a Weekend Getaway from Finland
Tallinn Women’s Run – Maijooks is the largest women’s fitness event in the Baltics, bringing together around 15,000 women every spring at the iconic Tallinn Song Festival Grounds. In 2025, Finnish runner Emilia joined the event for the first time – and the weekend left her with especially warm memories.
"I first heard about the event from a friend who convinced me to join her and participate together."
Her first experience made an immediate impression.
"What stood out most was the great atmosphere and the experience of running alongside so many amazing women. The day was crowned by a truly beautiful medal."
ENERGETIC ATMOSPHERE AND SMOOTH ORGANISATION
Maijooks is known for its joyful and encouraging atmosphere, where the focus is on the joy of movement and sharing the experience together.
"The atmosphere is energetic and very positive. The event was extremely well organised and there were hardly any queues. The goodie bag also had lots of nice surprises."
The race starts and finishes at Tallinn’s well-known Song Festival Grounds, which serves as the central event hub throughout the weekend.
"Tallinn has excellent transport connections and the Song Festival Grounds are easy to reach from the city centre by public transport or even on foot. The area is really beautiful and very well designed."
During the race, Emilia especially noticed the support along the course.
"There were many family members and friends cheering runners along the route, which was wonderful to see."
RUNNING AND A CITY BREAK IN ONE
For many Finnish participants, Maijooks is also the perfect active weekend getaway – Tallinn is only about two hours away by ferry from Helsinki.
Emilia quickly realised how much the city has to offer.
"Tallinn is a very beautiful and easy city to explore. There’s plenty to do for a weekend, whether you’re travelling with family, a partner or friends. The city has excellent restaurants and a wide selection of spas and wellness centres."
This combination is what makes the event special for her.
"Maijooks combines running with a mini city break. Besides the race, you can explore the city, enjoy great restaurants and relax in spas. It makes the event much more than just a running experience."
WHO IS LHV MAIJOOKS FOR?
Maijooks offers several participation options, including a 7 km run or walk and, new in 2026, the first women-only half marathon in the Baltics, as well as a relay half marathon.
Emilia warmly recommends the event to others.
"The event suits people of all ages and fitness levels. It’s a great opportunity to take part with friends, colleagues, or even with your mother or daughter."
WHAT ABOUT THE HALF MARATHON IN 2026?
In 2026, Maijooks will make history by introducing the first women-only half marathon (21.1 km) in the Baltics.
The new distance definitely interests Emilia.
"Yes, I would absolutely consider taking part in the half marathon. The first women-only half marathon in the Baltics sounds like a unique experience. I can easily imagine coming back again – the great atmosphere and the opportunity to combine the race with a weekend in Tallinn make the event truly special."
LHV Maijooks will take place on May 16–17 at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds.
Every participant receives a beautiful medal, a generous gift bag, access to an inspiring wellness expo, and a unique running experience shared with thousands of women.
