Narva City Run kicks off: Helen Bell sets mile record, Olavi Allase wins men’s race

On the opening day of the Narva City Run, Helen Bell stormed to a new Estonian record in the mile, while Olavi Allase claimed the men’s title.

The popular community sports event, held June 28–29, attracts participants not only from Narva and throughout Ida-Virumaa, but from across Estonia—and even beyond.

Historic Mile Race in Äkkeküla

Today at 17:00, the mile (1,609 m) was featured for the first time at the Äkkeküla Sports Centre.
• Helen Bell (Sparta Sports Club) won the women’s race, setting a new Estonian road mile record in 5:05.44.
• Tuuli Tomingas (TT Sports Club), a former record-holder and Nordic skier, finished second at 5:20.35.
• Kirte Katrin Sarevet (Treeningpartner club) took third in 5:41.89.


On the men’s side, Olavi Allase of Tartu Kalev won in 4:18.27, narrowly beating teammate Deniss Salmijanov (4:19.47) by just over a second. Leonid Latsepov, a marathon runner, claimed third with a time of 4:20.53.


More Races on Sunday at Joaoru

On Sunday, June 29, participants gather at the scenic Joaoru riverside area for two more distances:

  • 11:00 – 5 km
  • 12:00 – 10 km
    These races welcome both avid runners and recreational walkers.


Free Limpa Kids’ Races

Starting at 10:00 on the Joaoru island, the Limpa Kids’ Races offer fun, age-appropriate runs for children. Participation is completely free.

In addition to the races, the weekend features Narva City Days and the ESTO 2025 cultural program, offering music, entertainment, and cultural celebration.
