Regulations

  • 1. GENERAL INFORMATION

    1.1. Tallinn Marathon takes place 06.09.-08.09.2024.

    1.2. Organiser: Spordiürituste Korraldamise Klubi and partners. 

    1.3. Tallinn Marathon is organised according to the competition rules of the World Athletics (WA) and the Estonian Athletic Association (EKJL), and these follow regulations.

    1.4. Program:

    Saturday, 07.09.2024 Half-marathon 21,1K (hereafter 21K)
    Sunday, 08.09.2024 Marathon 42,195K (hereafter 42K)
  • 2. PARTICIPANTS

    2.1. Participation in Tallinn Marathon is at one’s own risk (for underage participants, the risk of their parents).

    2.2. Participants at the marathon distance must be at least 18 years old and at the half-marathon distance at least 16 years old. Participants must have sufficient training for the given distance.
    2.3. Exceptions are made for a younger participant if they have sufficient training and a written permit from a parent or a trainer. The written permission must be sent to the organiser at jooks@jooks.ee at the latest 2 weeks before the event.
    2.4. Organisers recommend passing a health examination before participation.
    2.5. Participating in any Tallinn Marathon distance with baby strollers or pets is not permitted.

  • 3. COMPETITION CENTRE

    3.1. The competition centre at the Freedom Square has:

    3.1.1 Race office (BIBs, on-the-spot registration)
    3.1.2 Dressing facilities and gear check
    3.1.3 Toilets
    3.1.4 Bicycle park
    3.1.5 Awarding area (stage) 
    3.1.6 Expo
    3.1.7 Medical aid

    3.1.8 Relaxing area for marathon finishers

  • 4. START GROUPS AND CORRIDOR

    4.1. Start for Tallinn Marathon will be located at the foot of Toompea on Falgi Road.

    4.2. Start corridor opens 30 minutes before the start.

    4.3. For registrants before 31.07.2024, the result of the Tallinn Marathon 2023 or the estimated time of the competitor will be taken into account.
    4.4. Participants of the Estonian championships in marathon distance and elite runners start in group A.
    4.5. Only registered participants with 2024 BIBs are allowed to enter the starting corridor.
    4.6. Only the participant who has registered for the race can race with their BIB.
    4.7. It is obligatory to start in your group, those starting in the wrong group will be disqualified.

  • 5. COURSE

    5.1. Tallinn Marathon's distances are held on the streets and light traffic roads of Tallinn.
    5.2. 42K distance course is open for 7 hours. Split times are recorded on 5., 10., 15., 20., 25., 30., 35. and on 21,1 km mark. Time limits: 21,1 km 3:15, 30 km 5:15. Participants exceeding the time limit will be disqualified.
    5.3. 21K distance course is open for 3 hours. Split times are recorded on 5., 10., 15., and 20. km mark.
    5.4. Refreshment stations are after every 3-5K. Water and sports drinks are provided at the refreshment stations from reusable cups, which must be placed in yellow collection boxes after use.

    5.5. For safety, the participants are obligated to follow the orders of the course adjudicators.

  • 6. FINISH

    6.1. Tallinn Marathon finish is located at the foot of Toompea on Falgi Road.
    6.2. After finishing, move along the finish corridor to the service area, where the participants will receive the beverage.

  • 7. REGISTRATION

    7.1. Online registration is open in Customer Portal at www.jooks.ee until 05.09.2024 at 17:00 and on-the-spot registration is available during the competition week in the race office.
    7.2. To register, fill in the registration form.

    7.3. The participant's name will be added to the start list after payment of the participation fee.

  • 8. RE-REGISTRATION

    8.1. Re-registration can be done, when signing into the Customer Portal at www.jooks.ee until 01.09.2024.

    8.2. Re-registration before 27.08.2024 is for free. If you change the distance from one distance to another, you need to pay the difference.

    8.3. From 28.08.2024 re-registration can be done for an additional fee.

           8.3.1. Name change costs 5 €.

           8.3.2. Distance change costs 5 € + participation fees difference.

    8.4. It is possible to re-register at the secretariat during the competition week for an additional fee of 10 € + the difference in entry fees.

    8.5. The overpaid participation fee will not be refunded.

  • 9. PARTICIPATION FEES

    9.1. Discount -20% applies for seniors over 60 years and youth under 20 years, starting from 21.11.2023. Age based discounts apply after entering the personal identification code in the registration form.
    9.2. Discount -10% is valid for groups if at least 10 people are registered at once, starting from 21.11.2023.
    9.3. One discount can be selected when registering. Double discounts do not apply.
    9.4. Discounts do not apply to the first and last registration rounds. 
    9.5. In case of cancellation of the Tallinn Marathon for reasons beyond the control of the organisers (force majeure) and in case of withdrawal of the competitor, the entry fee will not be refunded.
    9.6. If a participant cannot take part due to health reasons, it is possible to register for the same distance in 2025 by submitting a medical certificate before 02.09.2024. If the participation is postponed, the starting materials for 2024 cannot be retrieved. Participation is transferred only once.
    9.7. It is possible to apply for a 50% refund by presenting a medical certificate before 02.09.2024.

  • 11. TIMING

    11.1. Timing is measured electronically. 
    11.2. Timing is done by a chip attached on the back of the BIB.
    11.3. Do not remove the chip from the BIB and do not fold the BIB.
    11.4. The BIB must be placed on the chest and must be visible throughout the course, from start until crossing the finish line.
    11.5. When finishing, do not cover the BIB with your hand, otherwise your time may not be recorded.

  • 12. RESULTS

    12.1. Results are published at www.jooks.ee. 

    12.2. Ranking in age groups are identified according to the finish protocol.

  • 13. AWARD CEREMONY

    13.1. 8 fastest men and 8 fastest women of the marathon are awarded. 
    13.2. 5 fastest men and 5 fastest women of the half-marathon are awarded. 
    13.3. According to the competition rules, all winners awarded with a prize must come to the award ceremony.

  • 14. MEDICAL AID

    14.1. Medical aid is available along the course, if needed.
    14.2. If you see someone at the course who needs help, please inform the medical staff or organising personnel on the course or by calling 112.
    14.3. Event participants will respect clean and fair sport. IAAF’s anti-doping rules apply at the event and the Estonian Anti-Doping Agency has the right to test all participants for doping. More information for the participants is available at www.antidoping.ee.

  • 15. CANCELLING

    15.1. In case of obvious medical problems, the organisers have the right to call a participant off the course.
    15.2. If someone cancelling the race needs transport, they need to move to the nearest refreshment station and inform the organisers. 

  • 16. APPEALS

    16.1. All appeals concerning the event results, breach of rules, etc. must be made:

    • for the first 50 finishers, within 1h after the 50th runner has finished,
    • for the other finishers within 30 minutes after the finish is closed.
    • Appellation fee is 20 €, which will be refunded only if the protest is upheld.
    • All appeals concerning the competition are solved by the competition organiser.

    16.2. Cases not covered by the rules will be settled by the organiser on a rolling basis.

  • 17. APPEALS

    17.1. All appeals concerning the event results, breach of rules, etc. must be made:
    • for the first 50 finishers, within 1h after the 50th runner has finished,
    • for the other finishers within 30 minutes after the finish is closed.
    • Appellation fee is 20 €, which will be refunded only if the protest is upheld.
    • All appeals concerning the competition are solved by the competition organiser.

  • 18. RIGHTS OF THE ORGANISER

    17.1. The organiser has the right to disqualify the participant if they do not follow Tallinn Marathon, World Athletics (WA) nor the Estonian Athletic Association (EKJL) competition rules.
    17.2. The organisers have the right to use photos and videos taken at the event.

    17.3. By registering and paying the starting fee, the participant:

    17.3.1 agrees with these rules and regulations, and the conditions provided by the organiser;
    17.3.2 agrees that their personal data is used according to the laws and regulations;
    17.3.3 agrees that an e-mail with relevant information for the participant (the participant’s manual) is sent to them before the event;
    17.3.4 confirms that they have had sufficient training and they are healthy enough to take part in the sports event.
