Estonia’s largest running and movement event is on track for a record-breaking participation
The Swedbank Tallinn Marathon and Fall Race will take place on the streets of the capital from September 12 to 14 this year. The event program includes the classic marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.1 km), Tallinn Fall Race (10 km), Nike Youth Run (5 km), children's races, as well as a relay marathon and a welcome run suitable for all movement enthusiasts. Additionally, participants can take part in a virtual run throughout September.
With exactly six months to go until this major event, over 5,000 runners from 55 countries have already registered—30% more than at the same time last year and 20% more than in the record-breaking year. The largest international sports event in Estonia saw its participation record set in 2018, the centennial year of the Republic of Estonia, when nearly 24,000 runners took part across various distances. Last year, for the first time, the total number of registrants—including virtual participants—exceeded 30,000, although the number of on-site participants in Tallinn remained below the record.
Half a year before Estonia’s most popular running festival, the organizers have set a bold goal: to host the largest international sport event in Estonia's history.
Tiina Teder, Head of Race Office for the Swedbank Tallinn Marathon, confirms that ambitious targets have been set: "Since Tallinn will be the European Sports Capital in 2025 and our organizing team is celebrating its 25th anniversary, we are determined to break all previous participation records and organize the largest movement event in Estonia’s history—bringing together, for the first time, 25,000 participants from 80 countries. Including virtual runners, our target is to reach 10,000 more participants than last year. Never before have we seen such high registration activity at this time of year. Over 1,000 runners have already signed up for the marathon distance—25% more than last year. The number of half-marathon registrations is nearing 1,500, reflecting a 35% increase. Participation in the 10 km Tallinn Fall Race and Nike Youth Run has also grown by approximately 20%," Tiina Teder highlights.
The Swedbank Tallinn Marathon race office, along with the expo area, will be located at Freedom Square. The award ceremonies and cultural program will also take place there.
The start and finish of the main distances (42.195 km, 21.1 km, 10 km) will be at Falgi Road at the foot of Toompea hill, offering a view of the Tall Hermann, where the blue, blac and white Estonian flag waves daily. The course remains largely the same as last year.
