Kenyan runners win Estonia’s largest half marathon
The fastest runners at Estonia’s largest half marathon of all time were from Kenya.
This morning at 9:00 AM, nearly 5,000 participants set off from Falgi Road at the foot of Toompea Hill for the 21.1 km Swedbank Tallinn Marathon Half Marathon. The race was won by Kenyan runner Asabel Kiplimo Naiboi with a time of 1:01:39. David Korichei Cheserek (1:02:05) secured a double victory for Kenya, while third place went to Teresa Nyakola Gela from Ethiopia (1:04:59). The fastest Estonian was Morten Siht, finishing fourth in 1:06:32, followed by Olavi Allase in fifth (1:07:56).
In the women's race, Kenyan runners also took the top two spots. Gladys Jepkemoi Kwambai won with a time of 1:10:59, followed closely by Vivian Jepkogei Cheruiyot (1:11:11). Third place went to Ethiopian Nigsti Haftu(1:13:07). The fastest Estonian woman was Liis-Grete Hussar from the sports club Kuldne Tervis, finishing fourth in 1:16:42. She was followed by Helen Bell from Sparta Sports Club (1:19:07) and Kelly Nevolihhin (1:21:39).
Estonia’s biggest public sports event continues today at 14:00 with the 10 km Tallinn Sügisjooks (Autumn Run), and will culminate on Sunday morning at 9:00 with the full marathon. Also happening today: Limpa Children’s Runs begin at 11:00 at Snelli Stadium, and the Nike Youth Run kicks off at 18:30 from Freedom Square.
