The story behind our 2026 medals, told by Old Thomas.
High above Tallinn's Town Hall stands Old Thomas (Vana Toomas in Estonian), a historic weather vane that has watched over the city for nearly 500 years. Today, Old Thomas is one of Tallinn's most beloved symbols—a guardian who has witnessed centuries of life unfolding in the streets below.
According to local legend, Thomas was a young archer whose remarkable skill and determination earned him a place as a town guard. After his death, his likeness was placed atop the Town Hall tower, where he has continued to "watch over" Tallinn ever since.
Today, Old Thomas still welcomes everyone who comes to the city—including the thousands of runners who gather for the Swedbank Tallinn Marathon in September.
Every run begins with one decision
Our 2026 medal collection and official event shirt draw inspiration from one of Tallinn's most distinctive features: the historic doors of the UNESCO-listed Old Town.
For centuries, these doors have marked the beginning of new journeys, welcomed travellers, and opened the way to new stories. They remind us that every great achievement starts with a single decision.

Often, the hardest step isn't the final kilometre.
It's opening the door, stepping outside, and lacing up your running shoes.
That simple idea is at the heart of this year's Swedbank Tallinn Marathon story.
Just as the doors of Tallinn's Old Town have opened the way to countless stories over the centuries, every run opens new possibilities within yourself.
