For the first time, Estonia’s largest running event starts from Tallinn Song Festival Grounds

13.07.2021

If the stable situation lasts and following the public event restrictions and health care rules enforced in the Republic of Estonia, the three main events of Tallinn Marathon and RIMI 10 km run can be held in regular formats this September.

Virtual race programme with the marathon combo and kids’ races will take place at the same time.

For the first time, the Tallinn Marathon competition centre and start are located at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds that provides sufficient room and a safe environment to follow the rules, ensure that the participants keep distance and health care rules are observed. Competition information centre and office where you can retrieve the bib is also located there. Service area for the runners is also located at the Song Festival Grounds and award ceremonies will take place there as well.

On Saturday, 11 September, the regular half-marathon (21.1 km) will start at 9.00 and at 17.00 the 10-km RIMI race will kick off.

On Sunday, 12 September at 9.00 the marathon runners will take on the trail (42.195 km). Estonian and Tallinn marathon championships are also held in cooperation with the Estonian Athletic Association and City of Tallinn.

The track of the longer events runs along the streets and light traffic roads of Pirita tee, Merivälja tee and Reidi tee. The marathon track involves three 14-km rounds and half-marathon track consists of one 7-km and one 14-km round. Finish line is near the Russalka statue on the coastline light traffic road.

The 10-km trail of RIMI 10 km takes the runners around the Song Festival Grounds, Maarjamäe and Lillepi park trails. First the participants pass a 3-km and then a 7-km round. Both start and finish of the 10-km race are located on the Song Festival Grounds.

At the same time with the regular races, Tallinn Marathon virtual races are held from 1 to 30 September, where you can participate at a distance, time and location of your own choosing. The largest virtual sports event of Estonia will also include the extremely popular marathon combination or combo event which any running enthusiast or active person can manage. This means that the marathon distance must be passed by running or walking during September. In addition to the marathon combo, it is possible to participate virtually in the marathon, half-marathon, ten- or five-kilometre distances. Kids’ races are held virtually. Tallinn Marathon virtual races that took place for the first time last year had 11,924 participants from 53 countries.

Tallinna Sügisjooks, this year RIMI 10 km race, organised every year since 2000 and Tallinn Marathon organised every year since 2010 by the Spordiürituste Korraldamise Klubi have set in motion a quarter million people. International sports event with the highest participant number in the history of Estonia took place during the 100th anniversary year of the Republic of Estonia in 2018, when in total 23,940 runners and enthusiasts from 67 countries participated in Tallinn Marathon and the 10 km Sügisjooks.

Adhering to the restrictions and rules enforced for events in Estonia, the organisers hope to involve twenty thousand people in this year’s Tallinn Marathon and RIMI 10 km race, and the virtual races. The organisers together with the Health Board advise all participants to vaccinate against COVID-19. This is the best way to ensure a safe and secure sports event for all of us.
