The registration to Tallinn Marathon is open!
Estonia’s largest recreational sports event this year takes place September 10 through September 11. Tallinn Marathon Virtual Run, an event by now close to the heart for many running enthusiasts, welcomes participants from September 1 to September 30.
Significantly reduced entry fees should ensure ample motivation for all recreational athletes.
The program for Tallinn Marathon, an international event that involves top level long distance runners and thousands of recreational athletes, includes a half marathon (21.1 km) and RIMI 10K (10 km) on Saturday, September 10 and a classic marathon (42.2 km) on September 11.
Tallinn Marathon’s exact schedule, start and finish locations, and competition routes will be confirmed after it becomes clear under what conditions the major event can take place in September. The final decision depends on rules imposed on public events and recommendations of the Republic of Estonia Health Board. Should it not be possible for Tallinn Marathon to take place in its customary format this year, participants may request a full refund of their entry fee, transfer their participation to next year, or participate in a virtual race.
Concurrently with the customary major event, September 1 through September 30 Tallinn Marathon Virtual Run is open for participation in any corner of the world. This Estonia's largest virtual sports event provides the opportunity to take part in a marathon combo, a marathon combination event that has proven to be exceedingly popular and is accomplishable for every running enthusiast and exercise lover. The full marathon distance must be covered during the month of September, either by running or walking the distance in shorter parts that finally must add up to the full marathon distance. A virtual Kids’ Race will also take place.
Taking part in Tallinn Marathon is considerably more affordable this year as it was decided to lower the entry fees by up to a quarter (25%), depending on a given race.
“The long-standing corona crisis and continuously increasing daily expenses that are likely to go up even more in the very near future reduce the means and motivation for many people to engage in sports and leisurely exercise,” noted Tallinn Marathon’s Head Organizer Mati Lilliallik. “Public recreational sports events motivate thousands to train and exercise habitually and serve as an important goal for the whole year. To help even a little during these difficult times, we decided to lower the entry fees for all the main races in Tallinn Marathon. We’re trying to balance the budget with assistance from supporters that care about people that value the joy of exercise and continue to contribute to sports events,” explained the organizer of Estonia’s largest public recreational sports event.
Tallinn Autumn Runs and Tallinn Marathons, held by the Sport Event Team (MTÜ Spordiürituste Korraldamise Klubi) since 2000 and 2010, respectively, have thus far put on the move more than a quarter of a million exercise enthusiasts. The international sports event with the highest number of participants in Estonian history’s secured a participation record in 2018, the year of an anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, when a total of 23,940 runners and exercise lovers from 67 countries took part in Tallinn Marathon and Autumn Run.
