The fastest runners at the Tallinn half-marathon were from well-known running countries
Runners from Uganda and Kenya were the fastest in the Tallinn Marathon half marathon.
The 21.1 kilometre half marathon, which started at 9am this morning from the foot of Pika Hermann, was won by Ugandan runner Ali Chebures in 1:01.35. Elvis Chevor (1:01.45) from Kenya finished second and his compatriot Eric Leon Ndiema came third (1:01.50). Fifteenth overall was the fastest Estonian runner Bert Tippi (1:10.39).
In the women's half marathon, the Kenyan runners took the triple victory. The winner was Beatrice Cheserek, who finished ninth overall, with a new high-level Tallinn Half Marathon record of 1 hour 8 minutes and 22 seconds. Janet Ruguru Gishumbu crossed the finish line second (1:08.30) and Lydia Jebichi Korir third (1:08.49). The women's runner-up was Yekaterina Patyuk (1:17.11), winner of more than 100 Estonian championship titles, in sixth, and three-time Estonian middle distance record holder Liina Chernov (1:24.56), making her half marathon debut, in eighth.
The programme of Estonia's biggest grassroots event continues today with the ten-kilometre RIMI Autumn Run at 17.00 and culminates with the marathon distance, which starts at 9.00 on Sunday morning. Today, starting at 11.30, the Limpa Children's Run will take place at Snell Stadium.
